BUS 101Fundamentals of Business 3 Credits

This course is divided into two parts. The first part will introduce the fundamental environment of financial reporting and the role of the accounting in management planning and control. The financial accounting information forms the foundation for nearly every decision made by intelligent investors and creditors in both public and private sectors. This part will also introduce students to the economics of financial markets, as well as a detailed understanding of the economic principles behind the concepts of risk and return. The second part of the course introduces students to the fundamentals of entrepreneurship. It covers topics including opportunity identification, idea generation, business and competitive strategy. We will discuss the role of entrepreneurial activity in Kazakhstan’s economy. The course combines theoretical frameworks with cases and practice-oriented exercises. The course concludes with a capstone team project.
